We all know that staying hydrated is not only important, but it’s essential for our bodies to function properly. Be your best functioning, glowing self through hydration.
Hydration effects over-all health and well-being several ways.
- Skin Health – Proper hydration contributes to healthy, glowing skin by maintaining moisture levels and supporting skin elasticity. Dehydrated skin can appear dull, dry, and more prone to wrinkles and other signs of aging.
- Cognitive Function – Staying hydrated ensures optimal brain function, promoting better cognitive performance. Dehydration can impair cognitive function, including concentration, alertness, and short-term memory.
- Physical Performance – Hydration is essential for physical activity. Water helps transport nutrients to cells, regulate body temperature, and maintain electrolyte balance, all of which are crucial for peak physical performance.
- Heart Health – Chronic dehydration can strain the heart by reducing blood volume, which may lead to increased heart rate and decreased blood pressure. Hydration supports cardiovascular health by ensuring adequate blood circulation and oxygen delivery to tissues.

- Regulate Body Temperature – Sweating and respirating are processes that require hydration to regulate our body temperature. Adequate hydration ensures your body can effectively cool itself down when necessary, preventing overheating and heat-related illnesses.
- Supporting Bodily Functions – Water is involved in almost every bodily function, including digestion, circulation, nutrient absorption, and waste removal. Proper hydration helps these processes run smoothly, optimizing overall bodily function.
- Joint Lubrication – Hydration helps lubricate joints, which reduces friction and discomfort during movement. This is particularly important for conditions like arthritis.
- Kidney Function – Water helps flush waste and toxins from the body through urine, reducing the risk of kidney stones and urinary tract infections.
Drinking plain water gets boring, so I add natural flavors like lemon to my water.
Why Lemons?
Lemons are a delicious way to promote hydration and are beneficial for several reasons.
- Vitamin C – Lemons are rich in vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that helps boost the immune system, promotes healthy skin, and aids in collagen production, which is vital for skin elasticity.
- Improved Skin – The vitamin C in lemon water may contribute to healthier skin by reducing wrinkles and blemishes and promoting collagen production. Additionally, staying hydrated is essential for maintaining skin moisture and elasticity.
- Hydration – Lemon water provides hydration, which is essential for overall health. Staying hydrated helps maintain bodily functions, including temperature regulation, digestion, and nutrient transport.
- Digestion – The acidity of lemon juice helps stimulate the production of stomach acid, which can help break down food more effectively. Lemon water may relieve symptoms of indigestion and bloating.
- Weight Loss – Drinking lemon water can aid in weight loss. While lemon water itself doesn’t directly cause weight loss, it helps with weight management by promoting hydration and providing a low-calorie alternative to sugary beverages.
- Fresh Breath – Lemon water can help freshen breath due to its acidic nature, which can combat bacteria in the mouth that cause bad breath.
Make Lemon Water
I always have an abundance of lemons at home.
I like to keep my lemons in a decorative ceramic bowl either on the counter or in the fridge.
Every day, I slice up one whole lemon and put it in a glass water pitcher filled with filtered water.
Sometimes I use a handheld juicer and make sure I get every drop of those nutritional benefits.
I recommend always using filtered water with products like a Brita pitcher. Tap water has many known contaminants in it. If you’re curious about your water quality, look it up on the EWG’s website.
Take Lemon Water On-The-Go
I love using a water bottle with an infuser for lemon water on-the-go.
For busy morning when I bring my coffee to-go, I like having the lemon water infusing in a bottle for when I need to get rid of my coffee breath.
You won’t catch me without lemon water on a hot day running errands or on vacation at the beach.
I especially like to make sure I have lots of lemon water during the cold, winter months. Gotta make sure we are keeping a skin hydrated, body temperature regulated, and maintaining adequate Vitamin C levels.
I hope I have enlightened you to drink lemon water to stay hydrated, healthy, and glowing.
