Oh She Glows

Smoothies – Collagen and Protein Packed

I love starting my day off with a delicious smoothie! Especially one that is packed with delicious fruit, collagen peptideswhey protein and yogurt. There are so many different combinations of smoothies to make so you can keep your nutrient-packed drink fresh and interesting! Drink them out of a cute glass and have a glowing day!

There is no limit to the combination of tasty ingredients you can put in your smoothies. I have my go-to favorites that are so simple to make. You can enjoy them in a glass or make it a smoothie bowl with toppings. These nutrient packed smoothies are sure to make you glow!

Ingredient I always put in my smoothies

  • Collagen Peptides because of its rich amino acid profile that supports skin elasticity and joint health. Collagen is a vital component for your skin, bones, and connective tissues.
  • Whey Protein Powder because its amino acid profile helps keep you satiated while supporting muscle growth and recovery. It also comes in so many delicious flavors that will only enhance your smoothie.
  • Whole Milk Greek Yogurt because it’s packed with protein, calcium, and probiotics. It adds a nice creamy consistency to your smoothie while promoting gut health and aiding in satiety.
  • PB Fit Powder because it’s lower in calories than regular peanut butter, yet still a delicious heart-healthy option. It’s a great source of protein, healthy fats, and essential vitamins and minerals like vitamin E and magnesium.
  • Water or your choice of milk to add some liquid and volume.

My go-to fruit options

I prefer to use frozen fruit so I can eliminate the use of ice. You can get a bag of frozen fruit for a decent price usually. I’m a big Aldi shopper, so I usually get mine there. But Walmart or any grocery store will have a frozen fruit section with great options.

  • Frozen strawberries are my simple and classic favorite. You will always find those in my freezer.
  • Frozen blueberries add such a nice boost of color and flavor.
  • Tropical Blends are always fun. I usually find a trio pack with pineapple, mango, and papaya and I love it.
  • Frozen Pineapple goes great with a fresh or frozen banana.

Putting fresh fruit in is also an option, and any kind works. You could even freeze your own! Just make sure to add ice if you aren’t adding any frozen fruit, otherwise you’ll have a warm and not as creamy smoothie.

I always have apples around, so I’ll just add about half of one with frozen pineapple. I can’t be the only one here that never finishes my bananas before they go bad. I’ve gotten good about catching them on their last few days and added them to my smoothie. Any other banana, I chop it up and put it in the freezer inside a freezer safe bag.

Some other produce I like to add are avocados, spinach or kale, and occasionally celery or carrots. Depends on what flavors you’re feeling that day!

Get a good, high powered blender

Trust me on this one and don’t settle for the cheapest one you can find that won’t blend anything until its smooth. The blades won’t be sharp and powerful enough that they need to be in order to blend frozen ingredients.

I went through a few blenders over the years before I decided to splurge on a Ninja Blender – and oh my was it worth it. It has a smoothie setting that makes it perfect every time. It takes all the guess work out of the equation. This blender does some A plus quality work for me. I like experimenting with the different preset on it and have not been disappointed yet. It blended my creamy cauliflower soup perfectly so that I didn’t have to use my immersion blender and risk burning myself again. I got fancy one night and made my own hummus in it too and now I can’t go back to store bought hummus.

The perfect ratio

It took some trial and error in order to get what I think is the perfect ratio of everything. Some of you may like it thinner or thicker – but I like it like this.

If you’re new to making your own smoothies, give this ratio a go and let me know how yours turns out!
